Ireland Baldwin got candid about her famous parents, dad Alec Baldwin and mom Kim Basinger, days before her 30th birthday.

In a candid Substack post titled “30, Flirty, and Surviving,” the daughter of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger opened up about her “lonely childhood” and the lessons she’s learned while breaking free from toxic family patterns. “I move into 30 with a lot less weight on my shoulders,” she wrote, per Us Weekly. “This weight that was brought on by the need to continue to carry my narcissistic, unreliable, addict family members who I thought I needed in my life.”

Ireland, who grew up as an only child after her parents’ 2002 divorce, shared that her upbringing often left her isolated. “I grew up without two parents in my home and no siblings to turn to,” she said. “I had a lonely childhood at times, which is why I grew up feeling like I needed to win over certain people in my own family. For whatever reason, their validation and praise was meaningful to me.”

But as she enters a new decade, the model and actress says she’s finally learning to let go. “Nothing was more freeing than finally realizing how poisonous these people are,” she wrote. “So, I inch into my thirties with an understanding that this is how you break these cycles.”

Ireland, now a mom to 2-year-old daughter Holland with her boyfriend, musician RAC (real name André Allen Anjos), said her biggest motivation is to create a healthier home for her little girl. “My daughter doesn’t have to know these people, and I can protect her from them,” she said. “I can do my very best to construct my own idea of a family, piece by piece. And show how a real family treats one another.”

In her reflective post, Ireland also shared some of the lessons she’s learned over the past decade. “Ten years of pain. Ten years of not knowing what the hell I am doing or talking about, but still running my mouth anyway,” she wrote, before adding a few takeaways: “Don’t be ashamed of who you really are. I wasted so much time pretending to be someone else for a partner, to get a job, to get s----- people to like me, etc. I would give anything to get that time back.”

She continued, “You can’t change or fix anyone. Period. They have to want to change. And chances are they won’t. So quit while you’re ahead.”

Ireland also offered a loving reminder that appeared directed toward her mom, actress Kim Basinger: “Tell your mom you love her every single day. Text her when you get to where you’re going. You will soon understand her in ways you never had.”

The post even touched on her longtime struggles with body image. “You are not fat,” she repeated ten times, reinforcing a message of self-acceptance she’s learned to embrace.

While her reflections on family were at times painful, Ireland has also shown gratitude toward one family member in particular — her stepmom, Hilaria Baldwin. In a recent Instagram post, she credited Hilaria for helping improve her father’s health and emotional well-being. “She turned his health around and has shown him the forgiveness and kindness that he needed,” Ireland wrote. “She also recognizes and nourishes the parts of my father that are the most compassionate and wonderful.”

Ireland added that Hilaria has helped her reconnect with her father and enjoy the big family she always longed for. “Hilaria is the reason I am able to have the close relationship with my father that I do,” she said. “She is the reason I get to have siblings — a big family that I’ve always wanted. She has always respected me, accepted my flaws, embraced me, and has always shown me kindness.”

Now living in Oregon with RAC and their daughter, Ireland Baldwin is determined to move forward with peace, purpose, and hope. “I can’t speak for the vastly, ever-changing world around me,” she wrote. “I can only selfishly focus on my own road. I hope to find my people. My village.”
