Imagine deciding you're done having children and then undergo a permanent procedure to prevent future pregnancies- either a vasectomy or a tubal ligation.

But then, you find out you're expecting several months later.

For one couple, this is exactly what happened. Eight months earlier (from when the video was recorded), Tim had a vasectomy, as he states in his viral YouTube video. He says that six weekes ago, his wife, Rachel, "acted a little bit pregnant." They laughed it off because it wasn't possible, right?

Wrong. Tim realized they'd never gotten the results from his follow-up appointment to his vasectomy, so he called and found out the procedure hadn't been effective. To be sure his wife was pregnant, he disabled the toilets in the night, allowing him to be able to use a pregnancy test with his wife's collected urine.

In a twist of unusual events, Tim breaks the pregnancy news to his wife in the sweetest way. He writes her a note announcing she's soon to be a mother of four and surprises her with it along with some flowers and the positive pregnancy test. And by capturing all of this on video, Tim created a unique pregnancy announcement- waiting until after they knew the gender- to share with friends and family. When they told their three sons the news, one had his mind set on having a sister. He didn't get his wish.

Since then, Tim and Rachel added a baby boy, Merrit, to the three boys they already had. The couple took the surprise pregnancy in stride. They had planned on expanding their family anyway, but through adoption, which they still plan to do, as they mention in this YouTube video. Isn't this whole family the cutest?

Though a vasectomy is one of the most effective and safe forms of birth control (only one to two out of 1,000 couples become pregnant during the first year after a vasectomy, according to familydoctor.org), it's important to follow the procedures explained by your doctor, including making sure the procedure was a success before engaging in sex without secondary protection to prevent pregnancy.

Planning your family is an important decision between husband and wife. Whether you want a big family or a smaller one, it's necessary to be sure you can care for and provide for each child, both physically and emotionally.
