Most moms dream of raising their children in a perfect home beside a loving spouse. They want to be the person their kids look to for guidance, comfort and protection. While some moms achieve this, life happens; and some moms are given the opportunity to let a stepmom into their child's life.

"Why isn't that exactly what you want?"

Brittney Johnson had something to say about this - and people are loving it. She took to Facebook to write a powerful letter to moms in her situation.

"To all the mothers out there who throw a fit when another woman treats your child as her own: why isn't that exactly what you want?" the letter begins.

Johnson knew her daughter, Payton, would have a stepmom, and would spend a lot of time with her. Instead of resenting her precious daughter's new parent, Johnson prayed for her.

She's grateful for the "amazing bonus mom"

Johnson's prayers were answered, and she's grateful for the example Payton's stepmom, Kayla, sets.

"Kayla has been a gift of so much more than I could have hoped for," Johnson said.

Kayla is a busy nursing student, but that doesn't keep her from giving time and attention to Payton. She even bought Payton her own pair of mini scrubs so they could match.

Johnson goes on to thank Kayla for "Showing Payton how to chase her dreams, how to work hard and stay up late to study for a test. Thank you for still making time to ride her bike with her and make her mac and cheese even in one of the stressful times of your life."

"You're a true role model and an amazing bonus mom and we are so proud of you."

"Reconsider what's truly best for your child"

If you're a mom and you're worried about your child having a stepmom, it's totally normal. It's understandable to worry about being "replaced" or having to share your child. But Johnson says you shouldn't worry about it.

"If you're co-parenting, and seeing your child doing things like this doesn't bring a smile to your face, reconsider what's truly best for your child. Payton has more people to love her this way, and what more could a mother ever want for her child?" she said.

Johnson could easily be bitter toward Kayla, but she chooses to be thankful her daughter has another strong woman to love and care for her. She knows it can be hard, but showing gratitude for the "bonus mom" will mean so much to your child.

Thousands agreed with the wise mom

One woman who commented on the post felt the same way.

"My daughter asked if she could call her stepmom, mommy. I told her yes, if she (stepmom) was OK with that. Because it made me HAPPY that my daughter likes this woman enough to love and respect her as a mother," she said.

This was just one of thousands of comments supporting Johnson and her mature outlook on her daughter's stepmom.

If you're a mom, stepmom or your child is going to have a stepmom in the future, remember these words and do what's best for your child. Johnson closes her post by saying, "It takes a village, and I happen to love mine."
