As parents, we hope to raise confident, strong, mentally healthy children.

This 3-year-old is off to a great start.

This pint-sized white belt in Taekwondo is shown repeating the student creed with her instructor while making various poses. Not only is she a super adorable tiny tot, but the words she speaks may be the start of a confident and healthy foundation in her life. She repeats these words of wisdom:

"I will develop myself in a positive manner and avoid anything that would reduce my mental growth or physical health."

"I will develop self-discipline in order to bring out the best in myself and others."

"I will use common sense before self-defense and never be abusive or offensive."

Developing confidence, self-respect, honor and self-discipline are important for any child. Teaching our children to have confidence and to have healthy outlooks on life can and should happen at home. Sports, music, educational clubs or other activities to develop character and talents can also help your children to believe in themselves and have inner strength.

Remember to love your children as unique individuals. Help them to overcome shortcomings and praise them for their personal progress and strengths. Raise them to be confident adults who lift and inspire others and never treat anyone with cruelty.
