Hunger is a world-wide problem for people of all ages and races. How can we solve this problem?

SoulPancake partnered with ConAgra Foods to talk to kids about food. The children were asked what their favorite and least favorite foods were and gave some typical, and some not-so-typical, answers. Of course, when they are given a food they don't like, avoidance is their best tactic.

A question was posed about children—specifically in the United States—"Did you know that one out of every five kids doesn't have enough food to eat?" The children were stunned and upset about this new knowledge.

One girl responds, "It makes me feel, like, what are we gonna do to fix this?"

So, "What is something we can do to help fight hunger together?" They respond with perfect solutions:

  • Donate money.

  • Collect food to share.

  • Spread awareness.

"The tiniest ripples, make the biggest waves. If all the kids in the world got together and did something big, it could impact the whole world," said one boy.

We can make a difference one person at a time. You can involve your children, your family and your community in making a difference for those who are hungry. Some possible ways you can do this are:

  • Donate food to your local food pantry.

  • Start a food drive in your neighborhood and collect non-perishable food items from neighbors for those in need.

  • Donate money to reputable charities that fight hunger.

  • Look for sales on canned food and purchase extra to donate.

  • Donate food, time and money to area soup kitchens.

  • Pack a little extra in your child's school lunch and teach them to notice kids who don't have enough food and share with them.

These are just some ways you can help. Check with your city or state for other programs that help fight hunger. Watch how this homeless man helped others who are hungry. One person really can make a difference.
