Everyone dreams of having the happiest marriage. You want someone who's going to love you no matter what, you want a person to have fun with and most importantly, you want someone you can share a happy, fulfilling life with.

On your wedding day, you make promises to love your sweetheart forever through the good and bad times. But sometimes the bad outweighs the good by a lot, and marriages end up falling apart. But there are things you can do to make your happy marriage last forever:

1. Make time for each other

Time is the most valuable thing you can give your sweetheart. You both know how busy the other is, so making time will mean so much to the two of you.

2. Prioritize each other

Prioritize each other over EVERYTHING - including your kids. Your kids can't have a healthy home if their parents are constantly fighting, so nourish your relationship first.

3. Give each other compliments

Sincere compliments can go a long way between husband and wife. If you think something nice about your sweetheart, TELL THEM.

4. Make physical touch an everyday thing

Physical touch is so important in every relationship. You don't have to be intimate everyday to achieve this - a simple touch on the shoulder or a sweet hand-hold can do wonders.

5. Communicate

Never stop communicating. Stay on the same page. Make sure your spouse always knows how you feel. Keeping open communication is arguably the best thing you can do for your marriage.

6. Don't be afraid to argue

Every couple argues, and it's totally normal. Don't completely ignore problems, but set boundaries for your arguments to make sure you're not hurting each other.

7. Get rid of your expectations

The number one killer of marriages is unmet expectations. You should expect your basic needs to be met, but other than that, no marriage is the same, and it's best to throw your expectations out the window right now.

8. Take time for yourself

You need time to nourish and take care of yourself to be the best spouse you possibly can.

9. Learn to give and accept apologies

If you don't learn to apologize and forgive, your marriage won't be a happy one. You'll disappoint each other, but being quick to forgive and apologize will make it a whole lot better.

10. Keep private problems private

Don't go crying to your 20 closest friends about you and your spouse's problems. Keep it between the two of you and a therapist if needed.

11. Don't compare your marriage

Everyone's marriage looks different, so don't compare yours to the famous bloggers you follow on Instagram. Your marriage works for you - and that should be more than enough.

12. Realize your spouse can't read your mind

This took me a while to figure out, but your sweetheart truly doesn't know what you're thinking, and the only way they will is if you say it out loud.

13. Don't husband/wife bash

Bashing your significant other in any form is inappropriate. Don't leave passive aggressive statuses on Facebook, and don't tell your friends how annoying your spouse has been lately. Talk through those problems with each other to overcome them.

14. Always work to win your spouse over

Just because you're married doesn't mean you can stop trying to impress your spouse. Keep dressing up, keep telling them how much you appreciate them and keep showing your love.

15. Make sure you're best friends

When you married your spouse, you gained a best friend for life. It's an awesome deal, and you should never take it for granted.

When you make a serious effort with your sweetheart every day, your marriage will strengthen and you'll be together forever.
