Spending time with your spouse is one of the most significant things you can do to ensure a long-lasting and happy marriage. Unfortunately, for most of us, courting ends shortly after marriage when school or work begin to consume our time. Money issues can also come up that make couples feel restricted in what they can do together. Below are the beginnings of a list that can help you get more creative when spending time together.

  1. Cook a romantic dinner together, candles and all.

  2. Read a book together.

  3. Burn a CD or create a playlist of love songs that remind you of each other (keep it legal!).

  4. Talk. (I know, fellas. It's hard. But this is all about getting out of our comfort zones).

  5. Watch an old romantic movie together (Casablanca is one of my favorites).

  6. Go stargazing.

  7. Visit some of the special places where you shared memories while dating.

  8. Finger paint.

  9. Go for a jog, or do yoga together.

  10. Write love letters to each other and read them out loud.

  11. Put on some romantic music, and dance the night away.

  12. Sing to each other (the more goofy the better).

  13. Check out a local flea market or yard sale.

  14. Whip out the bubble bath and enjoy a nice relaxing bath together.

  15. Give each other a full-body massage.

  16. Visit a local furniture store and map out your dream house.

  17. Go sledding (with helmets to increase the goober factor).

  18. Plan the next vacation you want to take together.

  19. Head to the bookstore to peruse (or Cabela's, depending on your preference.)

  20. Take the night to just be intimate with each other.

  21. Test drive expensive cars.

  22. Play 20 questions. Chances are you don't know everything about each other.

  23. Visit a local art museum. Add to the fun by making up crazy "meanings" behind each piece you come across.

  24. Take a hike, or go on a nature walk.

  25. Have a picnic and throw a Frisbee.

  26. Take a class together at a local community college. Chances are you can audit for free.

  27. Go to a play at a local high school or community theater.

  28. Ride bikes together. If you don't own bikes, you could rent a tandem one for cheap.

  29. Serve together at the local soup kitchen.

  30. Switch off nights indulging in each other's hobbies, whether it's crocheting or Guitar Hero.

  31. Rent some movies from the local library.

  32. Sightsee in your own city (If you're like me, you haven't been everywhere).

  33. Make homemade pizza and ice cream (Yum!).

  34. Go fly a kite.

  35. Have a game night, and challenge each other to checkers or Uno.

  36. Go to the local thrift store with each person given $5 to spend.

  37. Go to a park, and swing on the swings.

  38. Make a fort in your living room out of blankets and chairs and have a cozy movie night.

  39. Go for a swim at the local pool (or just chill in the hot tub).

  40. Visit the local zoo.

  41. Make indoor s'mores with a gas stove or matches (make sure to tell each other spooky campfire stories).

  42. Visit a local bakery and pick out a treat for each other.

  43. Make a bucket list of things you want to do together.

  44. Purchase a disposable camera and head out into wherever you want to go to enjoy the day together.

  45. Visit a farmer's market and scout out some healthy ingredients for your romantic dinner.

  46. Train for a 5k race together.

  47. Learn a new dance (hello, YouTube!).

  48. Have a dessert bake-off.

  49. Watch an international film without subtitles. Fill in what they're saying and make up a plot as you go along.

  50. Organize a scavenger hunt for your kiddos.

No matter what you choose do, love is spelled T-I-M-E. So get creative and find ways to enjoy each other's company and put the spark back in that love life of yours. And if you have any other ideas that you've enjoyed doing with your spouse, feel free to add to the list!
