On "Cobra Kai," they’ve played everything from enemies to boyfriend-girlfriend to teammates, but in real life, it’s a love match for Tanner Buchanan and Mary Mouser
The pair have kept their romance under wraps until now, sharing a kiss and holding up hands, showing matching rings on the red carpet for the series finale premiere on February 12. They confirmed the engagement on Valentine’s Day, with Mary Mouser posting on Instagram, “We’re so happy to finally share that we’re engaged. This is such a special moment in our lives, the closing of one chapter and celebrating the continuation of another. We’re so grateful for the love and support, and though we’re partial to having our private moments, we’re excited to share this check-in to our world 🖤”
The couple also expressed gratitude for the support they've received, mentioning their preference for privacy but their excitement about sharing this news with their followers.

The revelation of their relationship came as a surprise to many fans. One person commented, "They are together!?!?" while another said, "Am I the only one who didn’t know they were together?"
Buchanan and Mouser's on-screen chemistry in the second and third seasons of "Cobra Kai" seems to have translated into real life. At the finale event, Buchanan told People that Mouser has been a steadfast confidant for him within the cast.
Their love story began on the set of the Emmy Award-nominated show, which extends the story of the "Karate Kid" movies. "Cobra Kai" premiered on YouTube in 2018 and found a new home on Netflix in 2020. In the series, Mouser plays Sam LaRusso, daughter of karate champ Daniel LaRusso, and Buchanan plays the son of Daniel's longtime rival, Johnny Lawrence.
Jon Hurwitz, one of the show's co-creators, joked on X about the real-life romance being part of their plans, saying, "We’re matchmakers first, showrunners second. Our main goal with Cobra Kai was for Daniel LaRusso’s daughter and Johnny Lawrence’s son to fall in love in real life. Mission accomplished. So happy for them! A perfect couple!"
Before Buchanan, Mouser was in a long-term relationship with actor Brett Pierce, while Buchanan previously dated actress Lizze Broadway.
