One of my most memorable moments was when my husband proposed. It was not an over-the-top proposal. It was simple but magical. One early afternoon, he picked me up for a regular date. We saw a movie and headed back to his house for dinner. After we ate, he disappeared for a couple of minutes. When he returned, he sat next to me on the couch with a small box. Even though it was a ring box, I didn't expect a ring. At one point, we'd seriously discussed marriage but never decided on a specific time. When he opened the box and asked me to marry him, I couldn't believe his spontaneity. I never saw the proposal coming (or the ring I always dreamed of).

Proposing to the woman of your dreams is nerve-wracking. You want to make that moment special and meaningful. You want the woman you love to always remember that day as one of the best days of her life. You can create a wonderful proposal by taking into consideration the things she loves, the places she enjoys going and the activities she has fun doing.

Here are five tips for making your proposal memorable:

Take her to a meaningful place

If possible, take her back to the place you both met for the first time or the place you had your first date. Bring up some good memories from that day. Take her back in time and, while she is engrossed in the memories, get down on one knee and propose. She may not see it coming.

Reinvent a romantic scene from her favorite movie

If your girlfriend happens to be the hopeless romantic who loves almost every romantic movie there is, pick out a scene from one of her favorite movies. As long as the scene is reasonable and attainable, recreate it. If need be, ask her friends or close family members to help you in the preparations.

Hire an event planner

If your girlfriend enjoys being the center of attention and loves lavish events, hire a reasonably priced event planner who can put together a romantic or nostalgic gathering. Provide the event planner with a list of your sweetheart's favorite meals, music and hobbies. Invite close family and friends whom you know your darling would love to celebrate this milestone with.

Shop for the ring together

Take your girlfriend on a small shopping spree. Stop by a jewelry store and casually ask her what she likes. Tell her you want to get an idea for the future. When she points out a ring she loves, ask to see it. Chances are, the ring will not be her size, but that is quite alright. Turn to her, look into her eyes and propose. She will definitely not expect a proposal at a time like that. After all, you were both just shopping around for an idea.

Ask her spontaneously

Maybe you already have the ring, but you are not sure when to pop the question. You want to do something special, but you also want to keep things simple. Perhaps you can ask your girlfriend the big question on a day you visit her at work, take her out for dinner or when you drop her off at home. Pick any day, any time - just as long as your heart is ready.

Every girl's dream is to meet her Prince Charming and have a fairy tale wedding. Give the love of your life a fairy tale proposal she will cherish forever.
