Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are proving that even the busiest people can make time for love. After being spotted sharing a romantic yacht date off the coast of Santa Barbara, new details are emerging about their growing connection — and it sounds like this romance is more than just a summer fling.

According to People, the pair are “quite taken with each other.” A Canadian source told the outlet, “In addition to the attraction, they are both smart and love to talk about serious issues. They have stayed in touch since the middle of summer but haven’t been able to spend that much time together, due mainly to her schedule.”

The source added that the couple’s bond is rooted in both chemistry and intellect. “Justin is also busy and both have family obligations,” they explained. “They have interests in common. Both are taking dating as it comes. But they are definitely into each other — and have been.”

Perhaps what’s most interesting is how their connection has evolved naturally. “Justin thinks she is terrific,” the insider shared. “It has had time to develop on a friend and intellectual level as well as supersized attraction. The romance has merit.”

The pair first drew public attention back in July when they were seen dining together at Le Violon in Montréal. At the time, a source told The Sun that Trudeau “has been single for a while and has enjoyed getting to know her.” The insider continued, “He likes her personality, and they are two people who really enjoy chatting about different topics, and they click very well so far, as they are going to see each other again very soon.”

Another source told the outlet that Trudeau found the connection “refreshing.” “He was happy to connect with her so well, and that she appreciates him being a normal, respectful person who was very understanding of her recent separation from Orlando Bloom,” the source said.

During her concert at London’s O2 arena on Monday, Perry seemed to confirm the budding relationship with a cheeky remark. “London, England, you’re like this on a Monday night after a whole day at work and a whole day at school?” she asked the crowd. “No wonder I fall for Englishmen all the time… but not anymore,” she joked, earning cheers from fans.

In another playful moment, Perry turned down a marriage proposal from a fan, quipping, “I wish you’d asked me 48 hours ago.”

Photos from their recent yacht outing show Perry, wearing a dark swimsuit, cozying up to Trudeau as he kissed her cheek and pulled her in close.

While both are enjoying the spark, friends say they’re being realistic about what’s ahead. As another People source shared, “They are interested in each other, but it will take a while to see where this goes. She is traveling around the world, and he is figuring out his life now that he is no longer prime minister of Canada, but there is an attraction. They have a lot in common.”

The insider added that distance and parenting responsibilities could slow things down: “Their own personal responsibilities could make this relationship move slower than it would, but there are ways to see the other and still fulfill their parenting responsibilities.”

For now, it seems Perry and Trudeau are content to let things unfold naturally — proof that even two people with world-sized schedules can find time for something real.
