Katy Perry and Miranda Kerr recently made a joint red carpet appearance, breaking down the stereotypes of the “antiquated narrative of ex-wives and new wives," while attending the 2023 G'Day USA Arts gala, which honors Australians who are prominent in the U.S. entertainment industry. Their friendship caught many people by surprise given that Perry is engaged to Kerr's ex-husband, Orlando Bloom. Kerr, an Australian model, was married to Bloom for three years before splitting up in 2013. The pair shares an 11-year-old son, Flynn, and have been co-parenting ever since their split. Since then, Kerr married Snap Inc. co-founder and CEO Evan Spiegel in 2017 where the couple shares two sons together, Myles and Hart. Perry and Bloom got engaged in 2019 and share daughter, Daisy Dove, who was welcomed to the world in 2020.

Kerr was awarded with the Excellence in the Arts award at the event where Perry excitedly presented her with the award. Perry alluded to their unlikely friendship while presenting the award saying, “Some of you might be confused about why I’m introducing Miranda. That doesn’t play into the antiquated narrative of ex-wives and new wives.” She continued by saying, "And yes, it’s true, most of the media would like to see us mud wrestle, including Evan [Spiegel], but we are here to lead by love because Miranda is love. And as a lot of you know, love comes in many family iterations."

The duo have previously expressed their love and respect for each other in past interviews and on social media. “I adore Katy, and I just feel so happy that Orlando has found someone that makes his heart so happy, because at the end of the day, for Flynn to have a happy father and a happy mother is just the most important thing. I’m just so grateful that Orlando and Katy found each other, and I’m so grateful that I found my incredible husband." Kerr said while she appeared on The Drew Barrymore Show in 2020. The love and respect between them is expressed to all partners where Kerr spoke about her happiness that Bloom found someone that's right for him. “From day one, when Orlando and I separated, we have been very close, really good friends,” she said on the "Ladies First With Laura Brown" podcast. “I always have wanted the best for him, and he’s always wanted the best for me.”
