In order to be a successful person, your weekends are essential in helping you recuperate from the strain of the week. A successful person doesn't stop moving on the weekends, but they do stop a certain amount of things in order to make room for relaxation and enjoyment.

If you're after success, do these 10 things and you'll start to see good, wholesome change in your life.

1. Wake up early

Getting up early is hard enough during the week, so naturally you always want to sleep in on the weekends. But if you sleep in, you are wasting precious hours by sleeping through them. In an interview with Time, Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed that he wakes up at 3:45 AM every morning. Yes, that includes weekends. Waking up early makes him a productive person and he's actually doing something he loves.

2. Make time for exercise

Exercising in the morning has been proven to reduce stress and improve your quality of sleep at night. If you're looking for a stress-free weekend (and life), get up and exercise. You'll not only improve your body's functionality, but you'll feel lighter and have a more productive outlook on the rest of the day. Once a successful person gets going in the morning, it's hard to stop.

3. Unplug from email and social

The weekends aren't for working. Put your phone away, don't look at your email, and whatever you do, don't get on social media. Weekends aren't for anyone else and what they're doing, they're for you and what you are doing. Don't focus on anyone else but yourself, and you'll be able to accomplish so much more.

4. Spend more time with family and friends

When the work week is full of business matters, the weekends are a special, reserved time for spending with family and friends. Business should be left to Monday through Friday and never take over your weekend. Successful people strengthen their relationships with their family and friends in order to keep up good social skills and make memories with the most precious people in their lives.

5. Do what you love to do

If anything, a successful person does what they love to do on the weekends. The workweek is meant for working, keeping busy and doing what's important so you can earn money, but the weekends are for "you time." Strengthen your soul by doing what you love. Whatever you choose, you will reap the reward come Sunday night and you will feel like you've accomplished something great.

6. Read more

When was the last time you sat down and read a book? If it's been a while, this weekend I challenge you to sit down and read. Reading on the weekends allows you to rejuvenate yourself and to learn something new. Fiction or non-fiction, each book has something worthwhile to share and will teach you something new. Have an open mind and be willing to expand your imagination to new worlds, thoughts, and ideas. Reading will most certainly help you come up with your next big idea and make you super successful.

7. Keep up the momentum

Don't stop moving just because it's the weekend. Sure, we all need time to relax, but you can relax when you sleep. Evenings are meant for winding down after the day's activities. Make your mornings the focus of your activities and errands and keep up the momentum you have going from the earlier in the week. Don't quit. Don't give up.

8. Reflect on the week

Take time to look back on the week. Take note of what went well and what didn't. Think about ways you can improve and be better yourself for the next week and put them into action. A good amount of reflection allows you to acknowledge your strengths and weaknesses and do something about them to become a better you.

9. Take time to recharge

Your definition of recharging may be different from someone else's. What matters most is that you allow your body to recharge. Don't put too much stress on yourself, and set aside the time you need to recharge and fulfill the things your body needs.

10. Make plans for the upcoming week

Look ahead to the upcoming week. Don't be afraid to make a list of the things you need to accomplish and keep it somewhere you can easily see it. In order to stay on top of things, make sure you have a game plan of what you want to finish. Only then, once you've accomplished the things you've set out to do will you be successful enough to fit more fun activities into your schedule.

Successful people are consistently doing all they can to improve and become the best versions of themselves they can be. Weekends allow them the time to do so, and with that being said, don't waste them. Take charge of those two days by doing all of these things and you will feel more successful than you ever thought you would.
