If you are anything like me, rolling out of bed every morning can be a hassle. I initially thought I was simply not a morning person, but after trying out a few techniques, I found a different solution.

Sleep is important, but having a healthy routine after waking up is also essential. Here are 9 suggestions to consider if you need to jumpstart your morning routine:

1. Sleep and body schedule

Most adults need an average of 8 hours of sleep every night, and the difference an adequate amount of sleep makes is incredible. Our bodies are delicate and need to be taken care of, especially when there is a full schedule the next day. Take the time to let your body get used to to a consistent sleep schedule. You will see a major difference in your day.

2. Sleep in comfort

Goldilocks was definitely on to something when she needed the mattress that was "just right" for her. Take the time to find your prefered room temperature, bedding and sleep position to achieve the precise amount of coziness your body needs. Sleep is very personal, so experiment until you find what helps you rest well and comfortably.

3. Set Motivation

Most of the time, focusing on the positives can truly motivate you to get going. Making a mental note of your many accomplishments awaiting throughout the day is a healthy way to get you up and moving.

4. Sound distaste

Your morning routine can be great or go awry depending on the first sound you hear when you wake up. Whether you prefer an alarm with a smooth melody or a loud beeping sound, either can impact how you greet the day. Another factor to consider is where your alarm is placed in your bedroom. Chances are you'll be less likely to hit the snooze button if it's further away from you.

5. Get a app

I recently tried an app to help me get up in the morning, and it truly worked! There are multiple apps out there that will help with sleep and waking up. My favorite app is called, "Wake n Shake" which mercilessly forces you to shake your phone in order to shut off the annoying sound. The force I have to put into shaking my phone is enough to get me out of bed!

6. Exercise

Exercise has been scientifically proven to be one of the healthiest alternatives to coffee in the morning. Exercising will give you the jolt of energy that you need to start your day. Your body is also more receptive to burning fat because your organs were dormant during the night. Early morning exercise could be the wiser option when considering an afternoon Yoga class.

7. Take a walk

This is a refreshing and stimulating way to gradually waken all of your senses in the morning. I usually take an early morning walk as an opportunity to walk my dogs, but it's also a golden opportunity to snap yourself out of morning fogginess and into the daily grind. .

8. Cold water

Any activity that involves cold water will help wake you up! Drink a glass in the morning, splash some on your face or just take a shower. When your body indicates a change in temperature, it stimulates wakeful energy.

9. Music

This one is my favorite. Music has a profound effect on the body and mind. Getting into the right groove will help you make a smooth transition into your busy day. Play your favorite upbeat songs that will spark some life into those early hours.

Remember that you're not the only one who struggles to wake up in the morning. Everywhere in the world, people are waking up later or spilling coffee on their shirts.

Applying these suggestions to your early morning routine will truly make a difference and get you out the door with a smile on your face. Find what works for you, and stay positive. The early bird gets the worm after all.
