When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Are you happy with yourself or does the reflection in the mirror cause you to cringe? July 3 is Compliment Your Mirror Day. This day is designed to help you see the good in yourself. But, this can often be easier said than done. Here are a few suggestions to help you find satisfaction with your reflection.

Smile

Smiling not only increases your outside beauty but your inside beauty as well. Each morning, smile for 15 consecutive seconds. You can do this while laying in bed, taking a shower or brushing your hair. You may feel silly at first, but you will reap the benefits all day long. By smiling for 15 consecutive seconds, your mood will improve, you will be much happier and you may find yourself smiling more often throughout the day. Also, you will find your smile is contagious and others will want to spend time with you.

Get up and move

Exercise is one of the best things you can do to improve your self-image. Physical activity each day will help you tone and slim your body and help you feel good about yourself. Exercise has dozens of physical and mental health benefits. It can help you lose weight, clear your skin, increase your mood, reduce stress and more. And, you don't need to spend hours each day to complete an intense workout. Even spending just 20 or 30 minutes each day will make a difference and over time, it will help you like what you see in the mirror.

Count to three

Before you go to bed each night, find three good things that have happened to you throughout the day or three things that you like about yourself. By looking for three positive traits or events that took place during the day, you will find that good things happen to you, even on the worst of days. You will see there is good inside you. We are often blinded by what we see in the mirror, but when we truly sit back and look at our day, it becomes easy to find the good and forget about the bad.

Set goals

Set goals for yourself. They can be anything from losing weight to making your bed each day. When you accomplish a goal, you feel good about yourself and your self-worth increases.

Set both long-term and short-term goals. Short-term goals are important because they provide stepping stones to accomplishing larger and more time-intensive goals. Long-term goals are also critical as they can bring the ultimate feelings of satisfaction and improve your self-esteem.

Surround yourself with positive influences

The people you surround yourself with on a daily basis can affect what you see in the mirror. If those around you are continually complaining and finding things that are wrong in their life, you will too. That type of behavior is contagious and will quickly affect you. Happy and positive people find the good in their lives. Spend time with these types of individuals. By spending a little bit of time with them, you will find that there are many reasons to be happy in your life that you may not even realize.

By applying just a few of the above suggestions into your daily life, you will see that there is more than what you see in the mirror. You have so much to give and so much to offer those around you. Look in the mirror and find that. Compliment yourself. Don't be a downer, there is no room for that in your reflection.
