Some Michigan sixth graders from a public school recently took a field trip, where some allegedly “tried out pole dancing” at a restaurant with a lounge attached. Libs of TikTok recently highlighted the incident from the November field trip.

A trustee on the board of Rochester Community Schools, Andrew Weaver, revealed details of the event. Fox News reported this happened during a field trip organized by a Hart Middle School teacher. According to Weaver, the teacher took the children to see the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and stopped by Niki’s Pizza for lunch.

Weaver explained that the restaurant didn’t have a lot of space, so the teacher took the kids into the attached lounge, which had stripper poles, sharing details and photos on his Facebook page. He told Fox News that the school wasn’t honest or transparent about what happened during the field trip. Weaver successfully ran for his trustee position amid frustration and concern over district administrator’s decisions.

He asked, “How did we get here? How do we not just communicate clearly to parents what happened? A mistake was made, and address it and make sure that we have the policies in place to prevent it from happening again in the future.” Weaver added, “It’s not a witch hunt. No one’s going after anyone. It’s really just about how do we make sure that we communicate properly.”

The lounge was closed at the time, and the group only used it because they needed it, so the situation may seem harmless. However, concerns over the decision to use the lounge space have continued. Agatha Kefallinos, the lounge and restaurant owner, told The Daily Caller it was “absolutely made known to” the school that they would use the lounge space because of the number of students.

Kefallinos said, “Typically when we have a group of over 100 people, we give them the option of going to our second floor, which is operated as a club on Saturday nights but is closed during the day. We’ve been doing this for 20 years. We’ve had dozens of school groups, and there was never an issue.” She continued, “At the time of taking a reservation for a group that size, we always make it very clear we can accommodate them on the second floor, but, as we said, the space is a club, and so it’s at their discretion at that point to come in or chose not to.”

She also clarified that the lounge poles aren’t and have never been used for sexualized performances, but they’re “part of the decorations.” A spokesperson for the school district confirmed to Fox News that the student went to Niki’s for lunch but made no further comment on the situation. The spokesperson added that caregivers and parents are encouraged to contact their school administrator with concerns or questions. They also added that field trips are evaluated by a curriculum team and require parents/guardians to sign a permission slip. This situation seems like an innocent mistake on the teacher’s behalf.
